The book seemed to really only have a mechanical lock. No traps Alice could recognise, though who knows how exactly something could be hidden here. Similarly, no visible source of sound.
But it was not the weird part.
The name of the book was "Expedition log number five" (though it wasn't clear whether it was an expedition number five to this temple, an expedition number five for the group in question, or merely a log number five). Alice knew that. But the cover was completely blank.
